Seven tapes. A missing journalist. A city that doesn't let you leave.
Enter the SilenceAfter his grandfather's death, archivist Markus Valente finds seven reels of magnetic tape hidden in a tin box and a letter with no signature: "The tapes are waiting for you. Sintra, Rua das Sombras, 13. Do not trust the silence."
The tapes hold the voice of Isabella Correia — a journalist who traveled to Sintra in 1987 to investigate the tunnels beneath Quinta da Regaleira. She never came back. Her recordings did. Markus came to Sintra to fill a gap in his family's history. What he finds instead will fill a gap in him.
"Do not listen to the silence, senhorita. Sometimes it answers." — Senhora Rosa, keeper of the old inn
"My name is Isabella Correia. Today is the 13th of October, 1987. I am in Sintra to investigate Quinta da Regaleira. Officially, it is just an estate. But I feel something else is hidden here. Last night I heard music. It was rising from underground. And it was calling me."
"The tapes chose you, Markus. They came to your grandfather by design. Now it is your turn to catalogue this story."
"You brought the cold with you, senhor. I know that look. That is the look of someone who walked too long in the fog near Quinta. You should leave."
There are others. In other cities. Looking for the same thing.
This is where it begins. Later, the geography changes — from fog to glass towers, from tunnels to the spaces between stars.
Some stories are about heroes who fight evil. This is not one of them. This is a story about the price of knowing — and whether the mind that finally reaches the truth can still recognize itself. It begins in a house in Sintra. It does not end on this planet.
